Top Costume Ideas for Couples

For couples looking for costume ideas for a costume party or Halloween, you could wear separate, unconnected costumes or alternatively you could get a matching or complementary pair of costumes. There are a number of different types of complementary costume ideas suitable for couples that can be considered.

One idea is to get a pair of costumes based on a famous duo, from popular culture such as movies, cartoons, television and music. Most often a costume pair will need to be of different sexes, but this does not have to be the case, as a man and a woman can dress up as two males or two females, which can add a bit of humour to the costume. For instance, a couple could dress as Batman and Robin, who may be both male, but the woman could wear the Robin costume.

For cartoons there are characters such a Popeye and Olive Oyl and Disney’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Some famous cinematic couples are Neo and Trinity from the Matrix trilogy, Shrek and Princess Fiona from the Shrek films and Han Solo and Princess Leia from Star Wars. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have appeared in both films and television.

Famous couples that can be used for ideas aren’t limited to popular culture of course; some other famous couple are Adam and Eve, King Arthur and Guinevere and Robin Hood and Maid Marian.

Dressing up in complementary professions such as doctor and nurse, cowboy and cowgirl, male and female 60s hippies, male and female professional wrestlers or a cheerleader and a football player is another idea. Male and female versions of many “professions” will also work, such as Native Americans and Caveman and Cavegirl. Superhero and supervillain costumes, especially those that complement each other such as Superman and Supergirl or Batman and the Joker is another possibility.

Another couple’s costume idea is that of the novelty costume. These may also be “famous duos” but are not people or characters, but instead complementary items such as peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper pots, bacon and egg and a plug and socket.

So, here are some costume ideas:

– For a novelty theme go dressed as Bacon and Eggs.

– Go as Neo and Trinity for a science fiction theme.

– For a more humorous take on the superhero concept get Batman and Robin costumes.

– A cartoon theme can be satisfied by dressing as Popeye and Olive Oyl.

– A more generic costume would be to go as hippies.

These should give you some ideas as to what to look for if you need a costume to wear as a couple.
