A Harry Potter costume idea for Halloween or theme parties is to dress as the Weasley twins, two of Ron‘s older brothers, Fred and George. As the Harry Potter series is in both book and film, this could be considered suitable as either a costume inspired by film or by books. This is not a solo costume idea, but one for two people or a couple.
Now, this may seem like a costume that is most suited to twins, and identical male ones at that, given that the characters in question are identical male twins (and it would be a good costume idea in such a case), but it can be used in other cases and, with a bit of effort, a different and possibly funny costume idea for a couple.
The Head
The most important element of the costume is for each person to have a red-haired wig, preferably identical
The Body
Just as with the majority of Harry Potter costumes, in order to make them look like a costume, rather than just some random person dressed in normal clothes, on the body should be worn wizard’s robes from the appropriate Hogwarts house, in this case, Gryffindor. Without wizardly robes, there is little to make it clear just what the costume is – as all it would look like is two red-headed but otherwise ordinary people.
What is worn on the feet and underneath the robes is not as important, although the twins do have a tendency to either dress identically, or wear similar designs but in different colours, such as suits with different coloured shirts and ties or different coloured suits, or sweaters of the same design but different colours. Dressing identically underneath the robes does help reinforce the twin appearance, which will help in the case when the two people wearing the outfit are not themselves identical twins.
The Accessories
The single most important accessory for any Potterverse wizard is, of course, a wand. There are replica and collectible wands available for both Fred and George, as seen in the films. Failing this – using a collectible wand as part of a costume might not be the best idea – a more generic Potterverse wand could be used.
Given Fred and George’s reputation as jokers, gag and practical joke items would also not go amiss. Their store did also later sell traditional Muggle magic tricks.
