Movie Character Costume Idea for Men – Obi-Wan Kenobi

A science fiction movie character idea for men for a theme or costume party is Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars franchise, starting with the original film back in the Seventies.

Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi has been in all the Star Wars films in both the original and the prequel trilogies. In the original trilogy of films he was played by Sir Alec Guinness and in the prequel trilogy of Ewan McGregor.

Although he was a bigger character in the prequel trilogy compared to the original trilogy – due to him “dying” fighting Darth Vader in Episode IV: A New Hope – it is probably the portrayal by Sir Alec Guinness that is the most iconic.

Both McGregor’s younger version and Guinness’s older one do wear the same costume at times, the one worn by Sir Alec. This costume is therefore appropriate for both old and young Kenobi, and for any of the first six films. The primary difference is the hair and beard; for Ewan McGregor they are brown, for Sir Alec they are white.

The Head

The rest of the costume should include a hood as part of the robe so here the primary concern is the beard and the hair, and whether they are white or brown.

The Body

>Obi-Wan wears a brown loose hooded robe, usually open at the front, with long, flared sleeves. Under this are tan trousers, a tan, knee-length tunic which crosses over at the front of the body and is fastened with a brown leather belt, with a white, tan or brown shirt underneath the tunic. The footwear is a pair of brown, calf length leather boots.

The Accessory

The primary accessory for any would-be Jedi is, of course, the lightsaber. Colour is an important factor here; for a Jedi you need blue or other cool colour such as purple or green. Obi-Wan should not be wielding a lightsaber of red or other Sith colour; blue was the colour of the lightsaber in the original film.. The lightsaber is worn attached to the belt of the rest of the costume.
