The vocals of many songs, especially the backup vocals, were often less sung than they were shouted. Somme bands would also incorporate elements of other musical genres. 1960s Costume Idea for Men and Women – The Mod

A Sixties costume idea for a costume or theme party or for Halloween is dressing as a Mod. Mods were a subculture in Britain that originated in the 1960s that were famous, or more properly, notorious, for the brawls they engaged in with another subculture, that of the Rockers, most notably at various seaside towns in the south of England. The name “Mod” is a shortening of the word “Modernist” which was used to describe modern jazz music of the 50s, to separate it from the traditional, or “trad” jazz music. The original scene was also associated with all night dancing and drug use.

The hippies were a youth movement in the United States that came about in the middle of the decade, and later spread to other countries. The term itself comes from “hipster” which was originally used to describe beatniks. Hippies were associated with drugs, particularly hallucinogenic, so that they could explore altered states of consciousness, and the sexual revolution. They came to influence all aspects of culture, including television, films, popular music, literature and the arts, with much of hippie culture being integrated into the mainstream as early as the Seventies.
